West Texas Crude

West Texas Crude is based in Hall Village in the ACT, Australia. The band has been together since 1995 and its Tuesday night practices have become legendary. Its members have all played in other bands and bring a mixture of country, folk, blues and rock. The band plays charity gigs including for the local Fire Brigades and the Hall community, and at the Canberra Country Music Festival.

They have released two albums: Writing on the Wall in 2010 and Take Your Chances in 2012.

Canberra Times reviewer Chris Johnson said about the first album “Writing on the Wall”:

“The songs are intelligent, original ballads delivering compelling commentaries on life, love, death and politics. But to categorise the music solely as folk would be a mistake. This album traverses folk, country and rock to treat the listener to a great journey - heavy on the strings. ”

In general Hugh Watson writes the lyrics and Matthew the music then Matthew Herbert shows his multi-talented musicianship by playing many of the instruments. Stephen Webb brought his extraordinary drumming skills to several songs. Phillip Williams can be heard harmonizing and playing blues harp in a couple too. Dave Williams, Mike Corrigan, Greg Clift, Greg Turnbull, John Coleman and Andrew Purdam also play with the band. West Texas Crude entertains with harmonies, great guitar licks and lyrics to remember.
